Song Birds, Bird Songs

From alpine to tropical, Taiwan enjoys a wide range of ecosystems—a result of a combination of abundant rainfall, the latitude, and topography of the island. This rich ecology supports many animal life: 62 species of mammals, 83 reptiles, and an estimated 50,000 species of insects, including over 400 butterflies. 155 of the 450 species of birds recorded in Taiwan are permanent, while winter migratory birds constitute 32%.
